Welcome to Foundations Christian School

Giving your children excellence in education is one of the best investments you can make as a parent. Since 2001, Foundations Christian School has been providing academic excellence for students K-12 in a caring Christian environment.  FCS is dedicated to reaching the highest of academic standards, while sharing Christ’s love, instilling Christian values and nurturing the faith of our students. The purpose of this school is to give Christian training along with a solid academic foundation in the basic fundamentals of learning. Our faculty, staff and administration work closely together to further their academic success and spiritual well-being. Our small class sizes allow teachers to spend more quality time with each student. The primary curriculum used at FCS is from the A-Beka program, and teachers supplement with other quality materials as needed. Academic standards are high with added emphasis on patriotism and character training. In addition to academics, FCS students attend computer, gym, music and art classes.

We provide students with a challenging program of academic studies, character and spiritual development, and service opportunities.  We share the desire of our parents, that their children become well-rounded individuals capable and determined to contribute in their families, their churches, their work places, and their communities.

Full Day Kindergarten

The outstanding Kindergarten reading program provides a great foundation for the future. Five-year-old students learn to recognize and write the letters of the alphabet along with their sounds and actually begin reading by December. Besides reading, your child will learn to count by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s to 100 and recognize the numbers before and after and other arithmetic facts. Children also develop valuable habits and social skills through daily experience.

Elementary

Your child’s future academic success depends upon a solid foundation. FCS is equipped to provide a learning program with proven academic results. Foundations Christian School’s educational program is so designed that the average student achieves above-average excellence. The instructional program for Grades 1-6 continues the educational foundation which was begun on the kindergarten level. FCS’s students consistently score higher than the national average on standardized achievement tests.

FCS’s outstanding reading program has a strong, systematic phonetic approach. It builds independent, confident reading. By the third grade, students can read basically anything. Even lower ability students learn to read successfully. Additional academic pursuits include language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.

Middle  & High School

FCS high school offers a college preparatory program of study with courses such as physics, geometry, foreign language along with a full complement of elective courses to suit the academic interests of each student.

The academic curriculum is developed to provide students with the best possible program of studies. There is emphasis on the mastery of the fundamental blocks of material necessary for satisfactory achievement in these areas. Along with the acquisition of facts and concepts in the areas studied, emphasis is placed upon the development and exercise of the powers of reasoning. Methods of teaching that are proven to be effective are utilized with a constant search for better methods. Realizing the difference in innate ability, we encourage and expect each student to perform to his maximum. We believe the traditional system of education best educates the mind and builds good character. It also encourages competition and teaches the value of living under a free enterprise system of government.

Yes, yes, yes.  In fact, we think the education of your child will be greatly improved if you will choose to be involved.  Many opportunities exist for you to get involved.  Some of these opportunities include classroom parents, field trip chaperones, lunchroom volunteers, and classroom assistants.  There are many additional opportunities as well.

What are the expectations of parents?

We exist as an extension of the home.  The ultimate training of your child is your responsibility; we simply exist to help you.  Because of this we ask that you model at home the type of lifestyle that we wish for our students to exemplify.  We also ask that you make it a commitment on your part to communicate both with us and with your child.

What are your discipline policies?

We use a code of conduct that students and parents must agree to follow.

I am not a member of Church of the Heartland.  Will this affect my child?

About 50% of our families attend churches other than COTH.  While Church of the Heartland is an integral and inseparable part of Foundations Christian School, we seek to minister to the entire Christian community.

Do you participate in standardized testing?

Foundations Christian School administers the Stanford Achievement Test on a bi-annual basis to all students.  This test is used by member schools of the Association of Christian Schools International and measures the comparable skill areas of both the ISTEP (Indiana) and MEAP (Michigan) tests.
